Walte Santiago is the Senior Pastor of Hope Chapel Koolauloa. Never in his wildest dream or aspirations did he ever think he would become a pastor. Many probably freak out today when they hear that Walter is now called Pastor Walter. But it was in the year of 1995 at a men’s retreat at the Makaha Sheraton that Walter was touched by the power of the Lord. It was at this retreat that the plans of God was put into motion. God is so awesome and good, that if anyone will open their hearts to his awesome love and power, they can change. Walter was taken under the discipleship of a few men at Hope Chapel Kaneohe. It was through this group that pastors, worship leaders, and church planters were formed. What makes it more special is that Walter was born an raised in the community he now pastors. His love for the people and the community is what fuels him daily to see families empowered for greatness. Walter graduated from Kahuku High School in 1988 and attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa where he was a 4 year letter winner with the Rainbow Football team. In fact it was in the beginning of his senior year that Walter married his high school sweetheart, Kehau (Kaslausky). It was a blessed year, because the University of Hawaii won the Holiday Bowl, beating the Fighting Illini of Illinois. Walter graduated from the University of Hawaii in Secondary Education and returned to his alma mater to teach and coach. His love for working with young people inspired him to come back to his community and help with the youth. But in 2001 the Lord called Walter out of teaching and into full-time ministry. This decision was one of faith, but also one that has blessed him and his family beyond their imagination.
Walter and his beautiful wife Kehau have been married for 16 years. They have 4 beautiful children Tatiana, Walter J, Zoey, and little Keenyn. They also have cared for Kehau’s nephew Chad, and oh yeah don’t forget the family dog Maluhia, who’s licking and wagging tail always makes them smile.
What can we say about how God can change a life, a family, and a home. It is their hearts desire and prayer to see every family in Koolauloa come to understand the love and grace of our Savior Jesus Christ. God is not about a religion or institution, or a building you attend our go to on Sundays. But what God is and wants is an intimate loving relationship with all of us. Come join us and be blessed!
